Preventing Cavities and Keeping Baby's Teeth Healthy
Tooth decay is very common than childhood obesity, asthma, and childhood diabetes. An acid attack on tooth enamel that breaks down it and leads to cavities in another word it makes holes in teeth. We can prevent the cavity from spreading and worsening by filling the cavities of the baby's teeth. Tooth decay is caused by bacteria. When food containing sugar or starches remains in the teeth can cause cavities. The combination of bacteria, acid, food, and saliva form a substance called plaque and it sticks to the teeth. As time passes, the acids made by the bacteria break down the calcium of tooth enamel which leads to cavities. Fluoride is an important part of dental health because it helps to restore the calcium of decaying teeth. It also controls the production of corrosive acid.

White spots and dark pits will end in holes or broken teeth and maybe painful making it hard for your child to eat. Thus good oral hygiene is very important for babies. Just brushing or cleaning is not enough to keep their teeth healthy. Here are some important points to take the best care of teeth.
1.Give food rich in vitamins and minerals
Adequate consumption of calcium, fluoride, phosphorus, and vitamins especially vitamin C and other minerals are important for the construction of her pearly whites.
2.Scrap the sugar
It is actually impossible to totally avoid sugar from the baby's diet. But you can limit the usage of sugar in her diet especially the refined sugar. Keep the number of sweets to a minimum level. Not more than twice a day or just serve it with meals.
3.Stick to water
It is recommended to give only milk and water to babies. Other liquids such as juices should not be given over a prolonged period of time. The reason is that there are bacteria in the mouth which converts the natural or added sugar in the liquid to acid. This can decay the teeth, as the acid dissolves the outer part of teeth. Juices should be given once in a while, but it is better to skip the juice to reduce the sugar intake.
4.No sharing spoons
The main reason for tooth decay is a type of bacteria known as streptococcus mutans, that lives in the mouth. Through saliva, it is easily spread from parents to children and between children. The bacteria feeds on sugar and other food waste in the mouth It leads to tooth decay as the bacteria produce acids that break down calcium in the teeth.
5.Use a cup instead of a bottle
Bottles and sippy cups filled with milk or juices can cause tooth decay because they allow the liquid to pool in the baby's mouth and on teeth. So it is better to make her use of cups for drinking.
