WHAT IS DANDRUFF?
Mostly everyone has experienced it at some point in their life. Dandruff is a situation where white or grey flakes,which are actually dead cells shred from your scalp. Due to excess oil,dead skin cells, clumped together into flakes .
CAUSES OF DANDRUFF?
1. Seborrheic Dermatitis : Our scalp secrete oil ,which contain a particular yeast called Malassezia that causes dandruff.
2. Dry Skin : Most people with dry skin are likely to get dandruff.
3. Skin Conditions : If you have psoriasis or eczema, you are vulnerable to having dandruff frequently.
4. Hygiene : Cleanliness is not directly related to dandruff,but not cleansing or shampooing regularly can produce oils from your scalp and dead skin cells group together causing dandruff.
5. Pollution and Heat : Pollution and heat, causes excessive sweating, skin irritation, fungal infections on your scalp all leading to dandruff.
6. Stress : Malassezia,the yeast which already exists on everyone’s scalp, it can grow vigorously when you are stressed.It increases the dandruff in your hair.
HOME REMEDIES
1.Coconut Oil
Dry scalp is one of the most frequent reasons for itchiness. You can moisturise your scalp with coconut oil. Using this oil twice a week can help to reduce the problem .Adding a few drops of vitamin E oil to it will make it more effective.
2.Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar contains strong anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that help you get rid of the dead skin cells on your scalp and thus helps to clear the scalp. Add 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in a cup of water. Wash your hair with any mild shampoo. Then rinse your hair with the solution made earlier.
3.Baking Soda
It has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties that kills pathogens causing skin problem that lead to itchiness. You need to mix 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda in water and apply the paste on your scalp. Let it stay for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off.
4.Olive Oil
It contains oleocanthal and oleuropei, components that have strong anti-inflammatory and skin protectant properties. Massage your scalp and hair with warm olive oil. Leave it overnight and in the morning wash off .
5.Lemon Juice
Lemon juice acidic in nature and has antimicrobial properties which helps in healing inflammation. Apply fresh lemon juice on your scalp using a cotton ball , leave it for 10 minutes and then rinse off.
6. Neem
As we all know ,Neem has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties ,it helps to reduce dandruff.For the hair mask, grind neem leaves into a paste, leave this paste on the scalp for 15 to 20 minutes and then use a mild shampoo.
7.Garlic
People may say a No-No to garlic because of its pungent smell. But its medicinal value is very important. Garlic is immensely beneficial as an anti-fungal natural product and it has mesmerized man for centuries. Take two or three garlic and after mixing with water use it on your scalp to see quick results.If the smell is irritating you could mix a little honey or ginger.
8.Aloe vera
Aloe Vera has a moisturizing effect. It also has antibacterial and anti fungal properties which gives relief from dandruff. Apply Aloe Vera gel directly on your scalp and leave for about half an hour. And then wash your hair with a mild shampoo.
9.Fenugreek seeds
Fenugreek seeds are rich in protein, which prevent dryness, hair fall and dandruff. They also strengthen our hair roots and moisturize our scalp. Soak the fenugreek seeds overnight and then grind into a paste, apply on the scalp and hair, leave for 15 – 20 minutes and then clean using a mild shampoo.
Note: Do not comb your hair using others hairbrush. Also, make sure you clean your hair once in two days. Regular cleaning of your hair will help prevent dandruff.
